You may be thinking, “Is this a story about a baker turned gluten free baker after discovering she can no longer eat gluten?”. Nope. Is she a cook or chef? No and no. So what exactly does Jackie, creator of Vanilla Spoons, do? She reads ingredients labels. Nearly ten years ago when she found out that her son was gluten intolerant, Jackie began checking out the fine print on food packaging. Reading and re-reading labels. You might call her an Expert Label Reader.

A little more background...

After graduating from college with a degree in art history, Jackie did the ad agency and graphic design firm bit in Boston and New York. Marriage and babies soon followed, and eventually so did gluten free awareness.

While becoming a pro at supermarket navigation and ordering in restaurants she was thinking, "Hey, this gluten free thing isn't so bad." Other people's initial reactions to her son's strict adherence to a gluten free diet, however, were another story. It went something like this: “Oh, the poor thing!” or “So he can't eat sugar?”. [yikes]

Tempting as the pity party may be, she thought one day: "Hmmm- how can I mesh my practical label reading talent with my passion for design and creativity?" And so the idea for Vanilla Spoons was born. Jackie says, "Owning an online gluten free gift basket company has enabled me to nurture my creative side while allowing me to bring on the fun and yum to all those who can't eat gluten."

Jackie currently lives in New England with her husband and their three kids.
